Smita Patil - Shakti

Smita Patil was a woman of exceptionally striking beauty, though scarcely of the type that predominates in the commercial cinema, and she displayed an equally extraordinary maturity in every performance she ever gave. Though she was to appear in some commerical releases, she was clearly out of place in those roles. Her career was tragically cut short by her death in 1986 during childbirth, as if in ominous reminder of the precariousness of the lives of women in India. Her talent as a photographer has only been recently discovered after the 1992 exhibition of her photographs, Through the eyes of Smita, at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Bombay.
Smita Patil died on December 14, 1986. She was only 31 years old. Yet, over the course of over 70 films since her debut at age 17 in Shyam Benegal's Charandas Chor, Smita established herself as one of the greatest actresses of the Indian screen. Her extraordinary presence, beauty and intelligence made her a symbol of independence, courage and integrity to millions.
There is something about dying young that perpetuates fame. Witness the icon industry that has sprung around Marilyn Monroe and James Dean. Or Meena Kumari (who passed away at 40), or Madhubala (who died at 36).
Then there is Smita Patil who passed away in 1986 at the shockingly young age of 31. The actress who was a fascinating amalgam of a steel-strong will as well as heart-tugging vulnerability, deserves the 'amazing actress' legend that has been built around her.

The young woman wears this scarf and there is a lot of meaning behind this.

From this website (about music)...
http://music.indya.com/reviews/film/sss.html
The year: 1978. The film: Raj Kapoor's most ambitious magnum opus describing the supremacy of the spiritual over physical beauty. And who better equipped to handle the beauty and harmony of the spheres than the Nightingale?
SSS is a tour de force on every level. Compositionally Laxmikant-Pyarelal were at the crest of their creativity, harnessing Lataji's celestial vocals into beguiling shapes and fascinating emblems of universal infinity. The title song was written by Lataji's favourite poet Pandit Narendra Sharma.
It is a beauty and joy forever. As far as love-conquers-all-mighty melodies go, even Yashomati maiyya se boley nandala doesn't lag behind.
Notice how the Nightingale croons Yashomati in two different moods for little Padmini Kolhapure and 'big' Zeenat Aman. No wonder the Showman was totally smitten by that voice!
Lataji dominates almost every nook and cranny of this breathtakingly beautiful album. Among her three other solos Bhor bhaye panghat pe, Saiyyan nikas gaye (with inputs from Bhupinder) and Suneejo unke aane ki aahat, we opt for the first as the shining light.
